Forster's delight at county cash boost

Golf: North Wilts Golf Club professional Barry Forster believes the £20,000 awarded to the Wiltshire Golf Partnership is much needed.

England Golf has granted the Partnership the money so they can develop the sport in the county.

They intend to use the money to raise the profile of the sport for both women and junior players and Forster, who is assistant professional at the club, welcomed the news.

He said: "It is always difficult, even when people like Tiger Woods are making it more "It is a sport which is seen as a rich persons game, or an old persons one.

"Any help the sport can get is really welcome."

Di Gritt, Wiltshire Golf Partnership chairman, believes the money is another step to fulfilling their three year plan.

"We held a series of forums last year attended by golf clubs throughout the county," she said.

"They gave us a mandate to create the Partnership and we have written a three-year development plan based on the feedback from these forums, "Working with the clubs, we will be helping to run golf taster sessions for both adults and juniors, will be helping to set up links between schools and golf facilities."
